Elderly Project

What is the ACVVS?

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme is a federally funded program that matches friendly volunteers with older people from Spanish-speaking backgrounds who are experiencing social isolation. Whether living in aged care homes or receiving home care packages, participants enjoy regular, heartfelt visits that improve quality of life, mental wellbeing, and connection to cultural roots.

ACVVS

Why It Matters

Many older adults may feel isolated due to language barriers, cultural disconnect, mobility issues, or living away from family. The ACVVS brings companionship—through simple, consistent visits—which helps:

  • Reduce loneliness and social isolation
  • Enhance emotional wellbeing
  • Reconnect individuals with their culture and stories
  • Support aged care staff by providing meaningful social interaction

What to Expect on a Visit

Time spent together can include:

  • Sharing stories and enjoying a cuppa
  • Reading, playing cards, or puzzles
  • Listening to music or walking together
  • Exploring technology, crafts, or hobbies
The focus is always on companionship—not care duties or personal support.
